FIGLA USA Corporation is the marketing division of FIGLA CO. LTD. for world-wide distribution (outside Japan) of selected glass and other products of the parent company. FIGLA CO. LTD. has specialized in fabricating architectural glass products and cosmetic containers for more than 20 years.
FIGLA was established in 1973, firstly as the manufacturer of cosmetics container packaging, and in 1985 started architectural glass fabrication in the newly build plant in Saitama, Japan which consolidates the cosmetic container manufacturing. The glass fabrication includes the sand blasting and acid washing facility, the glass lamination and the I.G. units manufacturing as well as the basic capabilitiy of cutting, edge-working and holes drilling, all of which have been awarded with JIS (Japan Industrial Standards) certification of registration. The whole plant operation received a certificate of registration with ISO 14001:1996 in 2001.
Over nearly twenty years, FIGLA has kept launching products of direct interest to designers and architects, represented by "TAPESTRY" sand blasted and acid washed glass and innovative products represented by "ECOSS" I.G. unit "M.J.G." Minimum Joint Glazing Systems and "M.G.S." Multi Glass Screen System. We are committed to providing only the highest glazing and curtain wall systems for the most challenging architectural projects as illustrated in the projects sites. We have worked on projects with S.O.M., C.P.A. (Cesar Pelli) , K.P.F. (Kohn, Pedersen, Fox) , Rafael Vinoly , P.C.F. (Pei Cobb Freed) , The Hillier Group and Nikken Sekkei amongst others.
4 years ago FIGLA added to its website - figlausa.com - our own photography of the GM GLOBAL HQ., DETROIT MI, CIRCULATION RING WALKWAY, which has been recently (February 2006) been reviewed in the magazine ARCHITECTURAL RECORD. Architects at the Chicago office of SKIDMORE OWINGS & MERRILL LLP chose a FIGLA custom anti-skid TAPESTRY pattern for the top surface of the 3-layer laminated glass floor panels. FIGLA also made 16 directional compass point patterns by the same process, which consists of digitally controlled sandblasting plus a unique acid-washed finish. This makes the walking surfaces safe for pedestrians, and extremely durable - the walkway has been open to the public since 1999. A similar walkway, partly indoor & partly outdoor, has been in service since 1995 at the TOKYO INTERNATIONAL FORUM, Tokyo, Japan (designed by American architect Rafael Vinoly).
Our website can show you these & other projects in which custom design applications of the TAPESTRY process have been used. FIGLA welcomes small or large project related inquiries for TAPESTRY use for floors, ceilings and interior wall or partition systems.
